The internet had already picked sides before Lil Tjay said a single word to the cameras.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!By Tuesday afternoon, social media had been running hot for nearly 24 hours — Offset had reportedly been shot at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida on Monday night, Lil Tjay had been arrested at the same scene on a disorderly conduct charge, and nobody could fully agree on what actually happened between them. X was divided. Reddit threads were running thousands of comments. TikTok was moving fast on reaction content. And then Lil Tjay walked out of Broward County Jail, spotted the reporters waiting outside, and decided to talk.
That’s when things got significantly louder.
What Tjay Said — And What Offset Said Back
According to Billboard, Tjay described his version of the night’s events in detail, claiming Offset had looked directly at him after the shooting and said “that n—a shot me.” He then called Offset a “rat” — on camera, unprompted, outside a jail — a word that carries serious weight in hip-hop culture and zero ambiguity about intent.
Offset, reportedly recovering from non-life-threatening injuries, was not going to let that land without a response. He fired back in the comments section of a Shade Room Teens post with four words: “U ain’t buss nun.”
Both men had now publicly told their versions of events in the most visible way possible. The internet, as expected, exploded.
Two camps formed almost instantly. One side took Tjay’s version at face value — pointing to his willingness to go on camera and the specificity of what he claimed Offset said. The other side focused on the fact that Tjay had just walked out of a jail arrest directly connected to the same incident, and questioned whether “rat” was an appropriate framing for someone reporting their own shooting. The debate has not cooled down.
What Actually Happened — And What’s Still Unclear
As reported by Variety, Lil Tjay — real name Tione Jayden Merritt — was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct in connection with the incident outside the Seminole Hard Rock valet area on Monday night. His bail was set at $500. His attorney, Dawn Florio, pushed back strongly on any suggestion that her client was directly involved in the shooting itself. “Lil Tjay has not been shot, nor has Lil Tjay been charged with any shooting,” she said in a statement. “Any reporting to the contrary is false.”
Police confirmed Offset was shot and transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. A representative for Offset confirmed the shooting and said he was receiving medical care. The investigation, according to authorities, was still ongoing as of publication — with additional persons allegedly involved still being sought.
For context: Lil Tjay and Offset have history. Earlier in 2025, Tjay made comments during a livestream claiming Offset had a gambling addiction and owed him money. None of that beef was resolved publicly. And now it’s very, very public.
Whether the full story ever comes out cleanly — and whether either man’s version holds up as the investigation continues — is anyone’s guess at this point. What’s clear is that the internet has already decided it needs to keep watching this one closely.
